Box Office
There is no dedicated Box Office inside RMIT Capitol, however the Main Comedy Festival Box Office is located across the road outside Melbourne Town Hall – please follow venue signage or ask a Comedy Festival Front of House staff member. You can also book yourself through our website or call centre on 03 9245 3788. There is step-free/wheelchair access from street level to the Box Office and a box office desk available at a lower height. This Box Office will open at 11am every day until late. All Comedy Festival box offices are cashless so only EFTPOS and credit card are accepted. Cash is not accepted.

Transport Information

Public Transport
The RMIT Capitol Theatre is located in close proximity to Flinders Street Train Station and is serviced by both Swanston Street and Collins Street trams. Go to ptv.vic.gov.au for public transport information.

Level access tram stops nearby are Stop 13 Flinders Street Station, Stop 11 Collins Street (Swanston St/Collins St) for trams 1, 3/3a, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67 and 72, Stop 6 Swanston Street for trams 86 and 96.

Car Parking
Secure Parking is proud to be a partner of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. They are offering all Comedy Festival ticketholders discounted parking at selected car parks. The closest Secure Parking to the Capitol is 300 Flinders St. For more information about how to redeem the discount, please visit the Secure Parking website.

There are designated on-street Accessible Parking Bays available at the following locations:

  • Flinders St between Elizabeth St and Swanston St
  • Flinders Lane between Elizabeth St and Swanston St
  • Little Collins St between Russell St and Elizabeth St

The best spot for drop off and pick-ups is either on Collins Street or Little Collins Street.

Accessibility
The entrance to the venue is from Swanston St into the Capitol Arcade and up a staircase into the foyer. There is an alternative entrance to the Capitol Arcade from Little Collins Street through Carson Place and then onto Howie Place, heading towards Swanston St.

For step-free/wheelchair access, enter The Capitol Arcade from Swanston Street or Howie Place. Halfway through the arcade there is a lift (between the jeweller and the dry cleaner). Take the lift up to the RMIT Capitol Theatre’s Foyer level. From the Foyer, a separate lift provides access to the Theatre, Salon and Lounge levels inside the RMIT Capitol Theatre. Please ask a Front of House staff member for assistance when you arrive. Please see How to Book Your Ticket if you require step-free and/or wheelchair access in the RMIT Capitol Theatre.

Accessible seating can be accessed from the Salon level for spaces in the middle of the performance space. Additional accessible seating is accessible from the foyer level for spaces at the front of the performance space. Hearing Loop
This venue is equipped with a hearing loop and provides assistive listening devices. Patrons can tune their own hearing aid device to the hearing loop to hear amplified sound. RMIT Capitol Theatre also has assistive listening devices with headphones available that can be borrowed for the duration of the performance. Please see a Comedy Festival Front of House staff member to enquire about using an assistive listening device.

Bathrooms
There are bathrooms available on both the foyer level and the upper Salon and Lounge levels.

There is a gender-neutral accessible bathroom on the foyer level.

There is a bar in the main foyer of RMIT Capitol Theatre, accessible via the main staircase or the lift from the Capitol Arcade.
