RAW Comedy is Australia’s largest and most celebrated open mic comedy competition.
Every year the Festival scours the country to unearth the newest wave of comedy legends as they compete for the title of next top comic. No corner of the continent is left unturned, with a series of heats in Adelaide, Bendigo, Brisbane, Bunbury, Byron Bay, Cairns, Canberra, Darwin, Fremantle, Geelong, Hobart, Melbourne, Mullumbimby, Newcastle, Parramatta, Perth, Sunshine Coast, Surfers Paradise, Sydney and Wollongong.
Winners of heats advance to state finals, then participants at their peak to battle it out in a showdown of wits at the RAW Comedy National Grand Final, held during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
The crowned champion not only takes home the prestigious RAW Comedy title but also secures a coveted spot at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to compete in So You Think You’re Funny? to rub shoulders with leading emerging comics from around the world.
RAW Comedy is the country’s premier platform for promising comedic talent, boasting an impressive alumni line up including Anne Edmonds, Ronny Chieng, Tom Ballard, Sam Campbell, Sarah Kendall, Georgie Carroll, Celia Pacquola, Josh Thomas, Hannah Gadsby, Aaron Chen, Rhys Nicholson, Becky Lucas and Joel Creasey, just to name a few.
