Charlene Kaye

Tiger Daughter, Or: How I Brought My Immigrant Mother Ultimate Shame

  • United States

Powerhouse musician and comedian Charlene Kaye (Succession, SNL) is bringing her hit one-woman show to Melbourne, fresh off the back of a sold-out Edinburgh Fringe and US tour.

This unhinged, shocking and deeply personal performance masterfully explores the complex relationship between Charlene and her mother, Lily, examining the tension of Lily’s unsolicited life advice and Charlene’s desire to earn her mother's respect as an Asian American rockstar. Carrying inherited baggage, it’s a story about how we endlessly misunderstand each other, eventually asking the profound question: Do we need to understand people in order to love them?

US tour presented by Margaret Cho

‘Charlene is hilarious, and she shreds [guitar].’ Margaret Cho

‘Immaculate… witty and rock and roll.’ ★★★★ The List (UK)

‘High energy and confident… a thing of beauty.’ ★★★★ The Scotsman

‘A rock star breaking intergenerational moulds.’ Migrant Women Press

Suitable for audiences 15+
