The
Melbourne International Comedy Festival is currently developing the
first Australian Comedy Awards to be presented on the 26th of
November 2003.The Comedy Festival has for a long time now worked
to raise the profile of and celebrate the art of comedy. The Australian
Comedy Awards will provide an opportunity for achievements in the comic
arts across a whole year and across a wide range of media to be recognised
annually in a suitably extravagant fashion.
The voting constituency for the Awards will be known as The Comedy Academy.
Any person who has been professionally engaged in a creative manner
in the art or business of comedy for a substantial length of time is
eligible to register as a voter with The Comedy Academy. |
|
Performers,
writers, directors, producers, managers, film distributors, entertainment
lawyers, festival organisers, journalists, program directors, authors,
visual artists, cartoonists, venue operators, casting agents and radio
presenters are examples of eligible Academy members.
Awards will be offered in many mediums, including live comic performance
(ie standup & cabaret), film, theatre, TV, radio, visual arts/cartooning,
books, recording, columnists/print media, advertising and the internet.
The Awards Organising Committee reserves the right to approve the accreditation
of voters. This is in order to make sure that only bona fide industry
participants are accredited voters. A number of Popular Choice Awards
will be offered to give the general public an opportunity to vote for
their favourites. The awards will be presented at a special event in
Melbourne on Wednesday, 26th November 2003. |
